Harry S Truman was the 33rd president of the United States of America.  He became the president when President Franklin D. Roosevelt died on April 12, 1945.  He was president from April 12, 1945 to January 20, 1953.  In 1945 Harry Truman signed the order to drop two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
 

Doris Day

Doris Day was a popular singer and movie star.  She started singing and touring with the Les Brown Band at the age of 16.  She made her first movie "Embraceable You" in 1948 and soon became a popular movie star and singer

Red China

On October 1, 1949 communists took control of china after a struggle starting befor WWII.  Red China entered the korean war in the 1950's, when it looked like the united nations were going to defeat communist North Korea.  Red China fell in 2007.

Johnnie Ray

Johnie Ray was a partly deaf singer, whose song "Cry" was a number one hit, Ray actually cried in performing the song.  He was a top star in 1949 and 1950 with his other hit songs "The Little White Cloud That Cried" and "Walking in the Rain"

Walter Winchell

Walter Winchell was a top gossip reporter, whose newspaper columm and radio show could make or break a celebrity.  He created his gossip columm while at the "New York Evening Graphic," in 1924.

Joe Dimaggio

Joe Dimaggio was apopular yankee baseball player.  In 1941 he set a major league record for hitting in 56 straight games.  He was a 3 time mvp and 13 time all star.  At the time of his retirment he had the fifth most career home runs with 361 and the sixth highest career slugging percentage with .579 slugging percentage.  In 1955 Joe Dimaggio was inducted into the baseball hall of fame.
