Roy Cohn

Roy Cohn was the advisor to Senator Joseph McCarthy during the McCarthy Hearings on Communists in the movie industry and government. Roy Cohn was born on February 20, 1927. Cohn and McCarthy were involved in a scandal to discredit the secretary of the army, Robert Stevens. Cohn was also a rumored homosexual, his partner being David Schine. He abused congressional privileges by causing Schine not to be drafted. In the 1908's, Cohn was disbarred from practicing law on the grounds of unethical and unprofessional conduct. He contacted AIDS and eventually died on August 2, 1986.

Juan Peron

Juan Peron was a poplar leader in Argentina. He was strongly anti-American. Peron was born on October 8, 1895. He served as the president of Argentina at three different times (1946, 1951 and 1973). He was exiled from 1955-1973. He was an extremely skilled politician and had millions of supporters even during when he was exiled. He gained power again, but it was only a short time before his death on July 1, 1974.

Arturo Toscanini

Arturo Toscanini was an Italian conductor born on March 25, 1876. He was considered to be one of the best classical conductors of all times. On April 4, 1954, he suffered a memory lapse while conducting a radio broadcast of the NBC Symphony at Carnegie Hall in New York. This was the last time he conducted live in public. He died on January 16, 1957, after having suffered a stroke on January 1 of the same year.

Dacron was a new wonder-material released in 1954. Dacron was made out of Polyethylene terephthalate (PETE or PET). PETE is recyclable plastic number 1. It was mainly a trademark for synthetic polyester fabric.

Bill Haley and the Comets came out with what was considered the first rock-and-roll hit song, Rock Around the Clock. This song was the theme song for Blackboard Jungle. The song was released on April 12, 1954.
